Question: Examine about the National Famework for Recovery Oriented Mental Health Services. Answer: Presentation: Lithium carbonate is a prescription generally utilized in the treatment of bipolar issue. It has been recorded by World Health Organization as a fundamental drug required in an essential wellbeing framework (Who.int, 2016). It is utilized in the treatment of the hyper scenes of bipolar issue and furthermore for the support of the patients by lessening the scenes. The manifestations of insanity where lithium carbonate can be utilized are decreased rest need, discourse pressure, misguided thinking and gaudiness (Cerimele et al., 2016). Ellen Hawkbridge has the central protest of bipolar issue and it is characterized by hyper scenes that are trailed by burdensome scenes. By and by, she is experiencing the hyper scene and the manifestations that she introduced unmistakably show bipolar confusion that needs quick clinical intercession. She expressed that she don't feel the need of rest around evening time, her discourse is forced and slurred, misguided thinking of garments and cosmetics a nd her substance of considerations are self important and coy. For controlling these indications, she was endorsed lithium carbonate and this was the justification for determination of the prescription for Ellen. Since it is the backbone of treatment for the treatment and upkeep of bipolar issue, accordingly Ellen is relied upon to stick carefully to her recommended drugs to keep her hyper scene of bipolar issue leveled out (Cerimele et al., 2016). The significant symptoms of lithium carbonate are the runs, strange heart beat and brevity of breath. The most widely recognized reactions of the prescription incorporate sluggishness, tipsiness, laziness and expanded thirst (Licht, 2012). In any case, they are normal and can be overseen by the drug specialist or doctor. The significant reactions require nursing intercession and treatment. Gentle to direct loose bowels is a significant symptom of lithium carbonate that can get serious relying upon the portion. The nursing intercessions for controlling looseness of the bowels incorporate urging the patient to expand the oral liquid admission that contains electrolytes and to advance the utilization of the unwinding strategy. The method of reasoning behind these nursing intercessions is to supplant the lost liquid because of the runs and to diminish the uneasiness and stress that can exacerbate looseness of the bowels. The other significant reaction incorporates unusual heart cadence w hich can get serious or even lethal if the patient has a clinical history of coronary illness. Nursing intercession incorporates observing of the imperative signs with appraisal of the ampleness of tissue perfusion and cardiovascular yield and auscultation of the heart sounds, mood and the nearness of dropped thumps and additional heart pulsates. The method of reasoning for these nursing intercessions is to give quick treatment to end of dysrhythmia within the sight of elective tissue perfusion and cardiovascular yield. Auscultation of the heart sounds and cadence is accomplished for the distinguishing proof of dysrhythmia in the patients who are unmonitored by hearing the dropped pulsates and additional pulses (Oruch et al., 2014). Brevity of breath is another symptom of lithium carbonate that can get extreme with the time. The nursing intercessions for brevity of breath incorporate observing of the crucial signs, beat oximetry and respiratory status and checking of the skin shadin g for cyanosis. Method of reasoning for these nursing intercessions is checking of the fundamental signs and different boundaries can alarm the specialist and the attendant for any adjustment in understanding condition and blue staining or cyanosis shows lacking perfusion that is a health related crisis (Bschor, 2014). Ellen has been endorsed lithium carbonate 500mg bd and it is a high portion for a lady of 57 years age. Accordingly, there are chances that symptoms may happen with delayed utilization of the medicine for support of her bipolar issue. Gentle to direct reactions can be maintained a strategic distance from by pulling back the medication or decreasing the measurement. Nonetheless, the extreme reactions require prompt administration and nursing intercession that have been talked about. Since Ellen is as of now in a debased condition of emotional well-being, any reaction of lithium carbonate must be managed most extreme clinical consideration. The clinical condition for which lithium carbonate is endorsed incorporates the treatment and upkeep of hyper scenes of bipolar issue. The run of the mill side effects of lunacy are engine hyperactivity, weight of discourse, trip of thoughts, misguided thinking, antagonistic vibe and forcefulness (Saunders et al., 2016). Since every one of these side effects were a lot of apparent on Ellens nearness in the crisis office, in this manner it was clear that she has not been taking her meds. She didn't felt the need of rest around evening time, her discourse was constrained, boisterous and slurred, there was trip of thoughts in her musings and her substance of thought was coquettish and gaudy. These side effects firmly proposed that she has been feeling the loss of her prescriptions and needs promptly set back to her medicine system. There are different procedures that can help Ellen to stick to her prescription and keep her hyper scenes in charge. One technique is to organize Psychotherapy for Ellen that will incorporate a psycho-training part for expanding the comprehension of the disease and the need of the preventive treatment. Another technique incorporates shared conversation with Ellen in regards to the favored treatment plan and looking into the restrictions and advantages of the recommended prescriptions with appraisal of the mediocrity and the accessible treatment choices (Bauer Gitlin, 2016). Recuperation standards support fair and open exchange and conversation between the customer and specialist about the lawful prerequisites. Learning and decision are advanced even in the prohibitive settings that incorporate security and scientific settings. Two recuperation standards can be executed for encouraging and supporting the self-administration of Ellens meds. This incorporates bolstered or joint dynamic with respect to the hazard the executives and wellbeing advancement by considering the tactile tweak methodologies for overseeing excitement (Health.gov.au, 2016). Since Ellen is in a raised mind-set and her judgment has been disabled, this must be managed and afterward a joint choice must be taken without anyone else, her significant other Simon and the clinician for self-administration of her medicine. The other system will incorporate joint development of the administration plans with backslide signature plans and early admonition signs (Health.gov.au, 2016). This will be a joint choice again by Ellen and her significant other Simon alongside the clinician for early location of the backslide if the meds are not taken consistently and planning an assistance plan for holding fast to the medicine system without anyone else the executives. These methodologies will help Ellen for self-administration of her drugs by structuring plans and regulation techniques for controlling her raised state of mind and forestall backsliding of the hyper scene. How to Work with Headhunters to Find a High Paying Job

How to Work with Headhunters to Find a High Paying Job Looking for a higher paying job to transfer your career into the next level? You’ll probably find yourself working with a headhunter. But who are these headhunters and how can they help you find your dream career? © Shutterstock | Syda ProductionsWe’ll explain who headhunters are and how they work. We’ll give you tips on how to best gain the attention of a headhunter and  effective strategies to help land a high paying job.WHO ARE HEADHUNTERS?In order to maximize your use of headhunters, it’s helpful to understand who they are and how they operate. This guarantees you take full advantage of the assistance they can provide you and it prevents you from, on the other hand, expecting too much from them.Headhunters are essentially a type of recruiter, often referred to as third-party recruiters. Therefore, they help an organization find a candidate for a specific role â€" acting as the middleman.Headhunters differ from typical recruiters in the sense that they are often executive search firms, specializing in mid- and high-level jobs. Headhunters don’t typically deal with graduate or entry-level roles. They are essential for finding high paying jobs, as research shows as many as 60% of job s go unadvertised and instead are only known by headhunters.Furthermore, there are three different types of headhunters. The difference between these types mainly relates to the salary they receive.Contingency headhunters:  Search for the candidates on behalf of the organization and the headhunter will be paid only when the position is successfully filled.Retainer headhunters:  Search and often screen the candidates, with the organizations having exclusive contacts with specific headhunting agencies.  Commission can be similar in terms of the final payable to contingency headhunters, but the payment is not typically dependent on the position being filled.Hybrid agency:  There are a number of headhunting agencies using a hybrid model, under which part of the fee is paid upfront, with the rest being contingent on the filling of the position. As a candidate, you should know headhunters are always paid by their client, which is the organization looking to hire. This means the loyalty of the agency is on the client and not necessarily on you as the candidate. This can mean headhunters aren’t interested in providing any type of career counseling and other such advice for you.In addition, this can mean the recruiter goes for standard candidates, who match the job description, as these are what the clients tend to prefer. Overall, headhunters are not looking for the most talented or likeable candidate. HOW DO HEADHUNTERS OPERATE?So, what is the typical process a headhunter uses to find the right match? The name, headhunter, is rather suitable for explaining the proceeds, as headhunters tend to “hunt” for the right candidates, instead of necessarily waiting for the candidate to come to them. The basic process tends to follow these steps:The headhunter receives a job description from the client. Although occasionally, headhunters can be closely involved in creating the job description and better understanding things such as the corporate culture, as this can help fin d the right match. The headhunter analyses the key requirements and starts searching for the right candidate. The places headhunters tend to look for and often in this particular order are:The agency’s own candidate database.Personal contacts the headhunter has within the specific industry.  This might include people they’ve previously helped find work and other word-of-mouth referrals.Social media sites.  The most common used platform is LinkedIn, but Facebook can also be utilized.  Cold calling or cold emailing the candidates found on social media.Advertise the position on a job site.  This is relatively rare, but still an option headhunter might turn to.The headhunter creates a shortlist of suitable candidates and presents it to the client. In addition, certain headhunters and search executive firms are also in charge of the interview process. This means the headhunter shortlists the candidates to invite to an interview. The interviews can be an initial phone interview, together with a face-to-face interview for selected candidates. Afterwards they might present two to three candidates to the organization to choose from. It’s not unusual for the initial search or even interview process to come up with no suitable candidates. According to data, 30% to 50% of all recruiting efforts are classified as a failure.[slideshare id=30488532doc=guidetofindingandworkingwithheadhunters-140127082221-phpapp02type=dw=640h=330]HOW TO BEST GAIN ATTENTION OF A HEADHUNTER?Now that you are aware of the “hunting” process, you can begin improving the way headhunters take notice of you.Below we’ll introduce you the two steps that can ensure you can gain attention.Position and brand yourselfFirst, you need to position and brand yourself well in the eyes of headhunters. There are essentially two key routes for enhancing your employee brand: through a strong online presence and with a quality CV/resume.You need to focus on constructing a strong online presence on public socia l media platforms used by headhunters. The key platforms to focus on are LinkedIn and Facebook. What are the best practices you should focus on? First, it’s important to create a detailed, yet short enough, summary of your skills and past experiences. You definitely want to focus on highlighting the skills required in your ideal career. You need to remember headhunters will be looking at your profile and comparing it with the job positions, they are searching for. Therefore, you need to think about the roles and companies you want to attract before creating the online profiles. The best way to do this is to research your ideal job roles and companies to get an idea what they want. In addition, since you are perfecting your online profiles, focusing on keywords is important.Overall, it’s crucial to ensure your social media profiles are clean and professional, if you are using public profiles. In 2012, a survey by ExecuNet found 90% of recruiters searching for candidates’ names on line. Therefore, an unprofessional profile, use of profanities or inappropriate comments can damage your chances. The second key way to positioning yourself higher on the headhunter’s shortlist is with a quality CV/resume. The task is not easy considering headhunters only spend six seconds on individual resumes.Headhunters use ATS systems to scan resumes in their database, so it’s important to focus on the relevant keywords and ensure you send out your CV/resume to all relevant agencies. Once again, it’s crucial to ensure you target the roles you are looking for with your keywords. Standardized resumes are unlikely to provide you the results you are looking for. What are some of the other points you need for creating a quality CV/resume? You should focus on:Include the most recent skills, experiences and qualifications to guarantee the resume is up to date. Ensure you only highlight the relevant skills, experiences and qualifications in terms of the job you are looking for.Have a clear and attractive headline. The headline should immediately point out your experience, qualifications and ambitions.Erasing all grammatical errors. 59% of headhunters will reject a candidate simply because of spelling and grammar errors.[[slideshare id=46173277doc=awesomeresumetemplates-150323094821-conversion-gate01w=640h=330]Reach out to headhuntersYour second step should be to increase your efforts on reaching out. While headhunters are in charge of contacting you in terms of job positions, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be active in positioning yourself into their ‘inner circle’.If you can highlight your professionalism and qualification in terms of specific types of jobs, headhunters are more likely to remember you when appropriate job positions land on their desks.Networking is a crucial part of a job search. You want to keep growing your own personal network by focusing on both headhunters and industry professionals.Start by identifying the headhunters and industr y influencers who are related and relevant to your career goals. We’ll delve into identifying your career goals a bit more in the following section. The key to remember is that not all headhunters are relevant to you. You need to identify the headhunters with access to the roles you want.In terms of creating networking opportunities, you should be active in attending different events. Career fairs and other industry-specific events are great opportunities to meet headhunters, as well as create connections with different companies and industry influencers. When you make a new connection with a headhunter, you must be pro-active in staying in touch. Follow-up on the new connections and maintain a regular relationship. This should include staying in touch on social media, participating in any recruitment events the headhunter might organize, and sending an updated resume/CV every once in a while to the headhunter.Overall, it’s beneficial to have a list of the relevant headhunters, a nd include their names, organizations and contact details in the file. You can use the list to stay on top of the last contact, the resume they have in their files and any other additional information you might wish to remember.HOW TO FIND A HIGH PAYING JOB USING HEADHUNTERS?The key to getting a high paying job through headhunters relies on the understanding that it’s not the most skilled candidate that gets the calls. Headhunters will look for candidates that best fit the job description and requirements, not the people with the highest qualifications or the most experience. In order to ensure the headhunters pick up your resume or find your LinkedIn profile, you therefore need to focus on the following strategies.Identify your career goalsWe briefly mentioned in the previous sections how having a set of career goals can help with your interactions with headhunters. You’ll be better equipped to create the right kind of profiles on social media and to write a compelling resume, i f you know the career route you are after. If you haven’t established a career plan or thought about the career progression steps you want to achieve, you definitely need to start thinking about them. Only once you are aware of the roles and companies you’d like to impress can you start contacting the relevant headhunters.Knowing your ideal roles beforehand ensures you are more prepared to talk with the headhunters. They will also notice you are career-driven and know what you want from your career. This ensures they don’t try to match you with jobs that are clearly not suitable for you.Furthermore, you should also be aware of the kind of salaries you are looking for. You don’t want to accept interviews for jobs that don’t meet your salary expectations or spend time applying for jobs with insufficient benefit packages. Focus only on the headhunters and networks that help with above goalsDon’t send your resume to every headhunting agency you find. With your career goals in mind, you need to instead identify the agencies and specialists focused on your industry.Find different recruitment agencies by searching for “headhunters (your industry)” in Google. You can also use keywords such as “headhunters (ideal role)” or “recruitment agency (your ideal company)”. This can provide you a selection of options. When you find possible headhunters, check out the agency’s website for more information. Don’t be afraid to drop a quick note outlining your career interests and asking whether the recruiter has worked with similar job postings in the past. Finally, you can always ask more information from your network connections. People working in your ideal companies or roles might be able to provide insights into the headhunting agencies they’ve worked with in the past.Improve your qualificationsSince headhunters are only looking at the skills and qualifications mentioned in the job posting, you need to ensure you have these. Therefore, to maximize y our chances of obtaining those high paying jobs, you need to know the specific requirements of these roles.Once you have career goals in mind, you should start browsing job listings to see what sort of skills and qualifications are required for your ideal job. You can also search for the roles online with keywords such as “(your ideal role) skills and qualifications)”. Furthermore, you want to research the companies you are targeting and pay attention to their corporate culture. What kind of skills does the company keep mentioning and focusing on?Once you have a better understanding of these specific requirements, start developing your skillset to fit these descriptions better. This might require some training or simply taking on opportunities at your current role to enhance your skillset. For instance, you could step up to different managerial positions to improve your leadership skills.Be open-minded with the responsibilities and skills you develop. You might be looking for a career in marketing, but a high paying job in the industry could well ask for sales knowledge. Cross training is always a good idea, as long as it doesn’t take you too far away from your focus area.Furthermore, remember top class jobs often require more than just technical skills. The higher you climb the career ladder, the more you need to focus on soft skills such as communication skills, team building skills and so on. Therefore, you need to pay attention to developing these as well.As you develop these skills, update your resume and social media profiles with the new qualifications. Remember to target the specific keywords you’ve noticed companies using when searching for these roles. If you’ve sent your resume to headhunters, remember to update them with the adjusted resume frequently. Not only does this ensure you’re resume is focused on the specific skills, but the contact can ‘bump up’ your resume on their list.Strengthen your role as industry expertFinally, you†™ll be higher on the list of quality candidates if you continue to strengthen your role as an industry expert. This not only provides you better networking opportunities, but it also improves your resume.Furthermore, since headhunters are the ones ‘hunting’ for the right match, you can fall into their radar by being active in industry discussion. Headhunters can sometimes simply browse industry forums, social media and other such resources for suitable candidates. If your name keeps popping up during this search, you’re likely to attract interest. You should definitely consider starting a blog. Attracting a strong following with a blog will improve your online visibility. Readers are likely to share your blog posts and therefore headhunters might stumble upon them.Even if blogging is not for you, you should become an active participant in industry discussion. Search for industry specific forums, read other people’s blogs and comment on them, and join in on the social media co nversation. Finally, you should consider speaking at industry events and career fairs.Find out more about becoming an industry expert from the video below: FINAL REMARKSHeadhunters seek the right candidates for the most prestigious roles. If you want a high paying job or progress on the career ladder, then you definitely want to build relationships with headhunters. But for the relationship to be the most fruitful, you need to understand the ‘hunting’ process.Headhunters are not all going to be useful for you, but at the same time, you can’t just lie around and wait for them to call you. You need to identify the headhunters most beneficial for your career development plan and build an online and offline presence, which will get you noticed. If you are aware of what you want, develop the skills you need in your desired role and stay active in your communication with headhunters. Huge Problem in Todays Society - Child Abuse - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 5 Words: 1425 Downloads: 9 Date added: 2019/04/08 Category Society Essay Level High school Tags: Child Abuse Essay Did you like this example? Child Abuse is something that happens a lot more than people realize it does. It is actually a huge problem in todays society and can actually have a lot of detrimental effects on the childs performance in school. According to the Encyclopedia of Social Work there are more than 3 million reports concerning maltreatment of 6 million children (Davis, 2008). Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Huge Problem in Todays Society Child Abuse" essay for you Create order Throughout history they focused on children who were orphans rather than focus on their maltreatment. And by the late 1800s agencies had established to help protect children from maltreatment and abuse in their own homes. For example, in Philadelphia children were being pulled from their homes if the family was too poor or too violent to care for their children. These agencies were developed to protect children from their caretakers who were abusing them. These agencies were supported by both public and private funds because there were no ordinances that were prohibiting the maltreatment of children. Until the year of 1974 there had been no prior federal laws that enforced national standards. Many of the laws during the 1960s, called the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act of 1974(CAPTA) were only started because of a public outcry that followed a documented child abuse through x-rays and multiple fractures found on childrens scans. CAPTA then implemented that there be mandated reporting of maltreatment by professionals and if there is a report there has to be an investigation. The definition of child maltreatment focuses on three major forms of abuse, them being physical abuse, sexual abuse, and neglect. Child abuse and neglect are also defined by the fact that the maltreatment is being done by a parent or caretaker. CAPTA, as amended by the Keeping Children and Families Safe Act of 2003, defines child abuse and neglect as: (1) any act or failure to act on the part of a parent or caretaker which results in death, serious physical or emotional harm, sexual abuse or exploitat ion; or (2) an act or failure to act which presents an imminent risk of serious harm (Child Welfare Information Gateway, 2006). (Davis, 2008). The definitions of child maltreatment and neglect havent really changed over the years. More services such as Child and Youth Services and Child Protective Services have been created. There have been about 3.3 million referrals to CPS that involves as many 6 million children in between the United States and Puerto Rico. About 30% of those reports were actually substantial abuse cases of abuse. It is found that younger children tend to be maltreated were as older children are more likely to be neglected. More females are maltreated than males and more males are killed or seriously injured and children who have a single parents home are more likely to be abused. These statistics are very interesting because often times you wouldnt think that things as small as your gender or living situation would impact if you were abused or not. Research shows that American Indians, Alaskan Natives, and Pacific Islanders are overly represented because of their representation of population. Sometimes people get confused and report people because of lack of food, shelter, and clothing al l due to not having enough money and not because they are being abused. A lot of abuse and neglect come from parental drug problems, parental mental health problems, young parents, child behavior issues, child with disabilities, and lack of support. Every type of abuse is different because everybodys situation is different. The way that an environment is structured could also lead to a child having an increased risk of being abused such as poverty, low wages, substance abuse, and racism. When working with children you have to be very careful because anything could trigger them. They have been abused and maltreated by people that they thought they could trust so they have little to no trust for anyone because everyone who they trusted ended up hurting them. Being a social worker in these types of cases can be extremely hard. As social workers we have to look at both sides of the issue meaning how we can improve the awareness of child abuse and understanding the underlying social issues leading up to the abuse. We need to be more aware especially when chil dren are in schools because that is when we will be able to notice the odd behavior the most. Academic success is a very important part of transitioning from youth to young adult and from young adult to an adult. Often times if children are abused, they tend to struggle academically and that can negatively impact their outcome in life. In recent studies they could not get a clear result because they used random groups of students. This new study focuses on students who had similar problems such as poverty, family characteristics, social and peer influences, and neighborhoods. It was found that even in the primary years of school children who experience agencies being involved in their life, tend to be delayed and causes them to sometimes be held back. A lot of children in school who are experiencing problems in their home experience frequent moves and changes which ultimately makes it difficult to succeed in school. If a child isnt getting the proper nutrients and attention, they need it will impact their performance in school. They found that cognitive and language delays ar e a greater risk in children who are abused. On average children who are abused tend to be at least half a year behind in school. It is isnt uncommon to see that the mistreated children often miss a lot of school and fall behind because of it. It is important that we have programs that help students who are behind. They cannot help that they are put into the situation that they are in, so we need to help them in every way that we can. Often times parents who have been abused in the past will abuse their children and not even realize they are doing it because that is how their parents taught them. Dealing with child abuse can be very difficult especially if you are a social worker. Having to go into peoples homes and sometimes taking children away from their parents, even though it may not be the right thing in your mind, is very hard. As a future educator it is hard to see that these children are being abused and that they are not getting the best of their schooling because of their parents. Academic success is a huge part of what the future of a child looks like. A lot of children who are abused in their younger days have a difficult time dealing with the emotions and over coming the trauma from their youth. A lot of high schoolers who had a history of being abused have behavioral problems and often drop out of school. It is important to be aware of this and do everything we can as social workers and educators to help these innocent children out who have no control over their situation. Throughout history the definition of child abuse has changed, and it has definitely helped save children from being abused. It is important for people to have an idea of what to look for and when to report child abuse because it could save childrens lives. Having an idea of how to deal and help children cope with abuse is essential to helping these children. Without all these laws about child abuse and reporting there would be a lot of undocumented reports of child abuse and a lot of children who would be very hurt. As social workers our goal is to help people and advocate for them. As a social worker for children we have to advocate whats best for them because sometimes the children cant even talk yet. Child abuse is a serious crime and it can not only impact the child emotionally but mentally and physically as well. Noticing the signs and trying to help these children will help save their lives so they can get out of the situation that they are in. Child abuse is something that is so common today that sometimes we dont realize it. If we do realize it, we need to make sure we are doing something about it because these children are our future. History has definitely changed the way child abuse is looked at and thats good because now all of these kids can be protected. Children are the future face of the country and we need to make sure that we as a whole are doing everything, we can to protect them.

The Secret Circle The Hunt Chapter 6 Free Essays

â€Å"I know we said this would be our evening alone, but Raj has been suffering from some major separation anxiety lately.† Adam was on Cassie’s doorstep with a pizza box in one hand and a dog leash in the other. â€Å"It’s okay. We will write a custom essay sample on The Secret Circle: The Hunt Chapter 6 or any similar topic only for you Order Now † Cassie bent down to give the shaggy dog a loving pat. â€Å"We’re not completely alone with Jekyll and Hyde downstairs anyway. At least Raj can’t order me around like a maidservant.† Adam’s eyes softened. â€Å"Has it gotten that bad already?† he asked, nodding in the direction of Faye and Laurel in the basement. â€Å"Let’s just say I’d love to take this pizza to go.† â€Å"A picnic on the bluff. That’s a great idea. Let’s do it.† Adam tugged on Raj’s leash and the dog sniffed and snorted, almost too excited for Adam to keep hold of him. Cassie grabbed a jacket and followed Adam out the door. Of course it was impossible for Faye and Laurel to hear her, but Cassie still couldn’t bring herself to open up to Adam about her nightmare or the cord with her friends so close by. Whether it was pure paranoia or not, having a heart-to-heart with Adam out in the fresh air on the bluff seemed like a far superior option. Adam kept Raj in check as he and Cassie made their way along Crowhaven Road, arm in arm, savoring the beautiful night. Cassie felt safe and protected with Adam, but she couldn’t help surveying the surrounding area, scanning every tree and shadow, alert to any movement or sound. She knew Scarlett or a hunter could be behind any one of the many crooked mailboxes or lopsided lampposts along their way. The bluff was tranquil, a rocky fort of solitude. The night was quiet in a way that usually made Cassie feel calm, but tonight she wanted to scream as loud as she could and shatter it. Adam instructed Raj to lie down, then opened up the pizza box and handed Cassie a drooping, dripping slice. â€Å"I got your favorite. Hawaiian.† Cassie accepted the slice from him and took a small bite before diving right into what she’d been waiting to say. â€Å"I have to tell you something,† Cassie said. Her words echoed into the night. â€Å"I had a dream last night.† â€Å"By the tone of your voice,† Adam said while chewing, â€Å"I’m guessing it wasn’t a good one.† Cassie shook her head. â€Å"And it was so real. I’m not sure if it actually happened.† â€Å"If it was a dream, Cassie, of course it didn’t happen. Are you saying you had another vision? Was it Scarlett?† â€Å"No. This was something else.† Cassie looked down from the sloping cliff to the lapping water below. â€Å"In the dream I was reading my father’s Book of Shadows, absorbing all of its energy. And then when I woke up my hands had been burned. See this?† Cassie set her slice of pizza down and lifted her shirtsleeve to show Adam the new burn on the inside of her hand. â€Å"That wasn’t there before I went to bed.† Adam closely examined the mark. â€Å"Okay, that’s weird,† he said. â€Å"Do you think you were reading the book in your sleep?† Cassie pulled her sleeve back down and picked at a pineapple bit on top of her pizza. â€Å"I don’t know. When I woke up, I found it locked away just as I’d left it before I went to bed. It really doesn’t make any sense.† â€Å"Have you told anyone else about this?† â€Å"No, just you. And I want to keep it that way.† Adam’s face took on an air of seriousness as his eyes wandered across the bluff. Cassie could tell he was trying to come up with some explanation or solution, but not finding any. â€Å"We have to find out more about that book,† he said. â€Å"It’s time for us to learn how dark magic works.† Cassie stiffened at the words dark magic. It wasn’t something she wanted to be associated with, especially in Adam’s mind. But Adam was right. â€Å"I want to try to open the book,† Cassie said. â€Å"With you at my side. I know for sure the witch-hunter curse my father used is in there and I want us to research it together.† â€Å"I think that’s a good idea.† Adam put aside his half-eaten slice of pizza and held Cassie by the shoulders. â€Å"I understand your fears about telling the rest of the Circle about this, but they might be able to help. Diana’s Book of Shadows has a lot of information in it. We should at least tell her, if not the others.† Cassie shook her head. â€Å"Not yet.† â€Å"Diana’s not going to judge you,† Adam said. â€Å"You know that.† â€Å"There’s more to it than that, Adam.† Cassie could see how strongly Adam disagreed with her, so she had to remain firm. â€Å"This is a private matter,† she said. â€Å"A family matter. It’s not for you to decide who should and shouldn’t know about it.† â€Å"Fine.† Adam exhaled loudly. â€Å"When you’re ready then.† For a few seconds his frustration was palpable. He got quiet and picked a pebble off the ground, worrying it between his fingers. But soon enough he lobbed the pebble into the water and refocused on Cassie. â€Å"I’m with you on this,† he said. â€Å"I need you to know that.† Cassie reached out to pull Adam closer. She buried her head in his chest and he rested his chin on her hair. Raj barked and jumped with jealousy. He nosed at their legs and pawed at their feet until Cassie gave in and bent down to give him a pat on the head. Adam laughed and stroked the dog’s disheveled coat. â€Å"I think Raj is right,† Adam said. â€Å"We’ve had enough serious talk for one night.† He returned to his pizza and bit off a mouthful. â€Å"Actually, there’s one more thing.† Cassie looked down at the dewy ground. As much as she wanted to forget all her troubles and enjoy her time with Adam, she knew she couldn’t keep the cord a secret from him any longer. â€Å"More bad news?† Adam said with a smile. â€Å"Have you been saving it all up for this one walk?† â€Å"Kind of.† Cassie couldn’t bear to fake levity. â€Å"I’ve kept this inside for a while now.† Adam commanded Raj to sit and tried to read Cassie’s expression. â€Å"What is it?† â€Å"I saw something,† Cassie said, in a barely audible voice. â€Å"That night in Cape Cod. When I was in your arms. I saw the cord, our cord.† â€Å"Okay.† â€Å"But I also saw a second cord. Going from you to Scarlett.† â€Å"I don’t understand what you’re telling me,† Adam said, but Cassie knew he must have perfectly understood what she was saying. â€Å"It looked just like ours,† Cassie explained. â€Å"But it was between the two of you. What do you think that means?† Adam shook his head. â€Å"I didn’t see anything like that.† Cassie didn’t want this to turn into an argument, but denying it wouldn’t help any. They couldn’t just pretend this away. â€Å"I saw it with my own eyes,† she said. â€Å"I could almost reach out and touch it.† â€Å"Cassie.† Adam took Cassie’s face into his hands and made her look him in the eye. â€Å"Whatever conclusion your mind is racing to right now, stop it. You were close to dying when you think you saw that cord. You must have been hallucinating in the smoke.† â€Å"Adam †¦Ã¢â‚¬ Cassie started to say, but he interrupted. â€Å"The silver cord is just between us. That’s how soul mates work.† â€Å"What if you have more than one soul mate? That’s what I’m asking.† â€Å"I don’t even think that’s possible.† Adam wrapped his arms around Cassie’s torso. â€Å"And any cord aside, I love you, Cassie. Only you. With everything I have.† â€Å"I love you too, but – â€Å" Adam kissed Cassie on the mouth, softly at first and then with more passion. The kisses made Cassie feel dizzy and light-headed in a way that made her want to giggle out loud. Even more so, she felt him – his essence – intertwining with hers. Then Adam abruptly pulled away. â€Å"Did you feel that?† â€Å"Of course I did.† â€Å"That’s all the proof I need. Cord or no cord. So forget about what you think you saw when you were half-conscious.† Adam kissed Cassie again, this time affectionately on the cheek. His lips felt warm and loving on her skin, and she couldn’t deny the feeling she got every time Adam kissed her. He was right about that much. â€Å"I only wish you’d told me this sooner,† he said. â€Å"I hate that you’ve been worrying about this.† â€Å"You would tell me if you saw it, wouldn’t you, Adam?† Cassie wasn’t sure where the question came from. She never doubted Adam’s word before. She’d never had a reason to. But Adam hesitated in a way that caught her attention. His answer didn’t come with the immediacy of honesty. â€Å"Of course I’d tell you,† he said, calmly and dismissively, only after he’d faltered. â€Å"I didn’t see a thing. And I don’t think you did either.† Perhaps it was all in Cassie’s head, but Adam didn’t sound quite convincing enough. Maybe she was even more confused and paranoid than she realized. Cassie turned away, focusing her attention on the long murky line of Crowhaven houses in the distance behind them. Like Adam said, cord aside, their relationship had grown and evolved way beyond love at first sight. â€Å"You know what I think?† Adam said in a lighter tone. â€Å"I think it’s time you allowed yourself to relax. Your mother’s right – you’re taking on too much.† â€Å"She said that to you?† Adam nodded. â€Å"At the meeting you slept through this morning. But she didn’t have to. We can all see it, Cassie. And you’re not alone.† Cassie started to respond, but Adam got that goofy look on his face once more. â€Å"Will you do me the honor of being my date for the Spring Fling? We could use a little fun, hunters be damned. And I can’t think of a better person to have on my arm than you.† Cassie giggled in spite of herself. But her gaze shifted back to Crowhaven Road, all the way down to the blackened depths of the bottom of the hill. â€Å"That sounds perfect, but I don’t know if we can afford to make fun a priority right now.† Then Cassie paused and thought better of the idea. â€Å"On second thought,† she said, â€Å"the dance might be just the opportunity we need to get close to the principal and Max in a public setting, to see if we can figure out some of their weaknesses, or find out more about their stone relics.† â€Å"Cassie. You’re missing the point. Your only concern should be making sure I wear the right color bow tie.† â€Å"Come on, Adam, I know you better than that. You’re always putting Circle business first, before everything else.† Adam blushed with guilt. â€Å"Okay, you’re right. Using the dance to get close to the hunters had crossed my mind. But that is all the more reason we both need a night off.† His eyes flickered in the moonlight and he reached for Cassie’s hand. â€Å"No magic. Just go to the dance and have a nice time – simple as that.† Adam was so much better than Cassie at being happy these days. Maybe some awful punch and silly dancing with her friends and boyfriend was just what she needed to clear out the black cloud that had settled into her chest. At the very least she could pretend to be excited about it – for Adam’s sake, and her mother’s peace of mind. Cassie accepted Adam’s hand and let him draw her in, ballroom dance – style. â€Å"Pink,† she whispered into his ear. â€Å"For your bow tie.† Adam took a step back. â€Å"Seriously? Couldn’t you choose a color that’s a bit more manly?† â€Å"Nope. Pink it is.† How to cite The Secret Circle: The Hunt Chapter 6, Essay examples

The Change Essays - Startup Cult, DraftZoro 4 Eva,

The Change Essay In this essay I am supposed to discuss a project or activity that best represents me. I thought about this for a while, and I decided I would talk about my piano lessons. My parents didn't make me take them, and I didn't take them because it was just something to do. There is a lot behind the story. About a year and a half ago, I suffered an injury that put me out of basketball for 6 months. To me, it was the end of the world. Basketball was supposed to be my future. It was what I thought I was going to do. It was my life. Everything I did centered around it, and I wanted to be the best at it. I was on top of my game, and the next minute I was watching everyone else play from the bench. I would get angry and frustrated, and wonder why it happened to me. I was out for the whole summer, and that affected my game a lot. I went out for basketball the next season, but I didn't do very well. I was irritated at how inefficiently I was playing. After the season got over, I knew I would have to make a big decision. A decision that would, perhaps, affect the rest of my life. I had to determine if I wanted to continue with basketball, or pursue other things I wanted to do. I considered how unhappy basketball was making me, and how I wished I could do other things. Following a lot of though t, I came to the decision that I would stop playing basketball. Most everyone was devastated, but I think it was the right choice. After my resolve to quit basketball, I took time to think of things I enjoy doing. I loved to sing, and I loved music. This led me to take piano lessons. I have only been taking them for eight months, but I have found a deep love of music I never knew I had. I have learned so much about myself, and what it is I actually want to do with my life. I have worked diligently, and I have progressed a considerable amount. I have a passion for this new activity that surprises me. It feels like I can't learn enough, or play enough. I believe I like piano so much, because I knew it was what I wanted to do. I did have to sacrifice something I thought I loved, but I found out I loved doing something else. From this experience, I learned that you can't always expect things to be the way they are now. People change, and circumstances are always changing. I still am very angry that I ever got an injury, but I believe it helped me to find something that I love. I would have never got the chance to play piano if I hadn't had that injury. There will be many tough decisions in life, and you've got to trust in yourself when you make them. You're the one who will live with it. Because after all, we make our decisions, and our decisions turn around and make us.

This means that the business community can face prosecution by the federal government for violation of the rules. In order to avoid such problems, outsourcing becomes the most logical thing to do. Describe the advantages of outsourcing food services to a management Contractor When a business community decides to outsource its food services function to a management contractor, there are a number of benefits associated with such a decision. To start with, such a decision will more than likely reduce the operational costs of the business in question. This is because a lot of resources usually go to the process of acquiring, processing, preparing, and serving food. Such process requires money and when the company outsources these functions, it can save on some of these expenses. In addition, food services do not constitute a core process of a business community, unless it is in the hospitality industry. Therefore, the company is likely t o record improve efficiency in its operations because all the resources of the firm are directed towards achieving its core objectives. The business community is also likely to save on the money that would otherwise have been spent in the purchase of new food equipment, as well as in replacing other equipments. In this case, the outsourced company has to assume this new role. This also goes for the salaries and wages of the employees working at the food services department in a business entity. Also, the demand for food can be affected by competitive events or time of the year and this can result in the modification of food production to suit the demand. At the same time, the perishable nature of food means that there is need to have professionals handling food during production, while preparing it, and during serving. A change in food production can also affect the menu planning. The aforementioned unique aspects of food service operations are therefore the driving force when a business entity decides to outsource the food services functi on to a management contractor and in the process, it can benefit from the associated advantages.

How to overcome writers block - Emphasis

How to overcome writers block How to overcome writers block Fear is the underlying emotion behind writers block. An inability to start writing hours before deadline may trigger the fight or flight response, leaving us in a cold sweat and frowning at a blank screen. But psychologists have found that the causes of writers block are much more complicated than blind panic. The foundations of the problem are laid down by the way we think and our patterns of behaviour. Avoidance makes it worse Avoiding writing not only wastes time, but it also makes writers block worse, according to behavioural theory. Psychologist Burrhus Skinner coined the term negative reinforcement: thats when a particular behaviour (such as turning off an alarm) is rewarded because it makes a bad feeling or unwanted sensation go away. Avoiding writing is also an act that is negatively reinforced because it brings us relief (albeit temporarily). The trouble is, since rewarded behaviour is strengthened, were more likely to carry on doing it. The inner voice We may have negative expectations about a report we have to write. The pessimistic thoughts might be caused by an overly critical boss, or we might be born worriers. Either way, our inner voice can sometimes say unhelpful things we are barely conscious of, like, The report might not be good enough or even People will think Im stupid. Evidence of our shortcomings is unpleasant, so we keep the imagined outcomes at bay by postponing the writing task. But the longer we go without disproving our need to worry, the more likely we are to keep putting it off. In other words, if we never start the project, well never see that it isnt going to be a disaster. Negative thinking There is a strong association between negative thinking and writers block. One experiment, from researchers at Princeton and Yale, found that combining writing training with strategies from cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) was an effective way to overcome writing anxiety. Participants using this combined approach wrote higher quality documents than a group who were given only writing training. CBT is a goal-orientated talking therapy that helps people to challenge negative thinking. According to Aaron Beck, the clinical psychologist who developed the approach, human behaviour often stems from the way we think. And rational thinking leads to constructive behaviour. Reframe your thoughts In the Princeton/Yale study, participants were asked to identify negative self-statements those thoughts that inhibited coping behaviour and update them with more productive ideas. For example, Ill never get this work done is an example of black-and-white thinking, the tendency to evaluate yourself, people or situations in extreme terms. After looking at evidence for and against the idea that the work would never get done, the thought could be reframed into something more positive: I may be very busy, but I am experienced enough to finish the task. Catching yourself in the act of avoidance and negative thinking can be the point where you begin to unblock your writing. Writing in the blog Psychology Today, business coach Margaret Moore suggests ways to get rid of your inner critic. These include logging your negative thoughts in a notepad, identifying the feelings that lie behind the thoughts to get to the root of the block, and even telling your inner voice to shut up!. We can think of a few stronger words you might want to use. For techniques on how to beat the block, see our article Tips for breaking through the barrier. Impact of Fatherhood and Motherhood on Organizational Careers Essay

Impact of Fatherhood and Motherhood on Organizational Careers - Essay Example It should be also noted that the development of a standard rule in regard to the potentials of individuals, both males and females, with children to fight for their employment rights is not possible. In fact, the review of the literature related to this subject has revealed that the impact of fatherhood and motherhood on work and organizational career is significant, an issue that needs to be taken into consideration by governors and legislators worldwide. 2. Fatherhood and motherhood as factors influencing work and organizational careers in the early 21st century. In the workplace, fathers and mothers have the potential to use certain advantages, as set by the law for the particular category of employees Shwalb, Shwalb and Lamb (2012) refer to the parental leave scheme, a scheme that allows fathers, as also mothers, to be far from work for a particular period of time in order to take care of their children (Shwalb, Shwalb and Lamb 2012, p.321). ...This means that the use of paternal leave can help mothers ‘to increase their contribution in the family’s expenses, a fact that would highly benefit their self-respect and confidence (Shwalb, Shwalb and Lamb 2012, p.321). Reference can be also made to the findings of another survey, also included in the study of Shwalb, Shwalb and Lamb (2012). In the context of the above survey Scandinavian parents were asked to state their view in regard to their preferable mode of family - expenses sharing by parents (Shwalb, Shwalb and Lamb 2012, p.321). A high percentage, 63%, of the participants responded that they would prefer that the family expenses would be covered equally by both parents (Shwalb, Shwalb and Lamb 2012, p.321). In any case, since the high majority of fathers is paid more than mothers, fathers are more likely to contribute at a higher percentage in family expenses (Ranson 2011). Miller (2010) highlights another issue. Because employment policies are different in each country, according to the loc al ethics and culture, it is quite difficult to identify a strategy that could highly promote the power of mothers and fathers in the workplace and that would be applicable in all organizations that have similar characteristics (Miller 2010, p.13). In this context, the potential identification of an effective strategy for helping fathers in the workplace would not affect the status of fathers in other organizations, who have different conditions and challenges to face (Miller 2010, p.13). The lack of an integrate policy for supporting fatherhood in the workplace is related primarily to the different political systems and interests in each country.

College is a Waste of Time, and Money Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

College is a Waste of Time, and Money - Essay Example We have already heard in the news and discussion forums the unresponsiveness of our school system that it does not necessarily prepare an individual in the real world. Even Bill Gates criticized the present school system and its curricula that it is no longer reflective of what is needed in the real world that has real problems The cost of going to college is also not to be taken lightly. It is expensive and typically comprises the majority of the savings of the parents of a typical middle class parent. The expenses are not only limited to tuition, but also the books, board and lodging and other miscellaneous costs. Considering that an individual will not even be getting a real education that is responsive to the real problems in the real life settings, it is not worth it to spend that much. The money and time that is supposed to be spent in college can be used in other better things. Real education can be had through other means without wasting time and resources. College only prepa res an individual to be a conformist and an employee; to get a job and live a life of drudgery of getting up early and working for someone else. College does not even teach you how to make money in a smart way. According to Robert Kiyosaki in his bestseller book Rich Dad Poor Dad, college does not prepare an individual for financial independence. ... Many of the subjects that are offered in the courses in college are also impractical and unnecessary. They have no use except to burden a student with additional workload and tuition expense with only the satisfaction of finishing the course. In short, many of the things that are taught in college are just â€Å"nice to know†. Worst, the things that are learned that are supposed to equip the student when he or she gets into the real world, are forgotten by the time the student graduated because of the long stay in school. The intelligence that is required in life is not also academic intelligence or intelligence quotient (IQ) as what school is telling us but emotional intelligence or real life intelligence that solves real life problems (Wechesler, 1982 qtd. In Mandel & Pherwani, 2003). This kind of intelligence which is required in real life is not even taught in college and in fact even downplayed by the â€Å"academics†. It has always been assumed that a higher IQ th at is needed in college would equate to a desirable performance in real life and a determinant of an individual’s success in a chosen career. It has always been stressed that college is an appropriate preparation for an individual to succeed or make it in life. Real life, street or emotional intelligence on the other hand has been traditionally regarded as a weakness and irrelevant. It has been thought that being street smart has no bearing nor use in professional endeavors and as such, irrelevant. Real life learning has always been relegated as inferior to college. Recent studies however have illustrated that school/college and its IQ is an insufficient predictor of success. As early as 1920, Thorndike has already contended that to make it in life,

An Overview of Health Promotion Programs

An Overview of Health Promotion Programs ASSIGNMENT: What are health prevention programs? What role do employers play with health prevention programs? Research health prevention programs and the various companies that offers them. Which company’s program do you prefer? Why? In November 2006, I began my journey to lose weight and become a healthy individual. When I was 203 pounds, I knew I needed to lose weight because I was currently vulnerable of succumbing to the many health issues like high blood pressure, heart disease, joint problems and even exercise induced asthma. During my quest to lose 63 pounds, I began a health prevention program that overtime would eliminate or greatly reduce my chances of ever contracting a lifestyle related illness. I didn’t know it at the time, but many businesses today work to provide the same lifestyle I was seeking to achieve and still look to obtain today. If businesses look to provide health prevention programs, it would be a great idea to learn more about what health prevention programs entail. Health prevention programs are programs that are created to help the public fight off illnesses and overcome diseases. Health prevention programs stave off chronic diseases such as heart disease, various cancers, and lower respiratory infections such as COPD and asthma. Most of these can be prevented by stopping high-risk behavior such as smoking and overeating. The reason why health prevention programs are so effective is because, like the name says, these are programs that prevent illnesses as mild as obesity (which is in no way mild) and as severe as heart attacks and strokes (Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 2014). Chronic diseases like heart disease, stroke, cancer, and diabetes are responsible for at least seven and as much as 10 deaths a year in the United States. Furthermore, treatment for the preventable yet chronic ailments costs over 75% of the over $2.5 trillion that is spent annually on health care costs. Finally, yet not exhaustively, obesity is responsible for a great deal of health costs. Because disease risks often related to various social activities like tobacco use, physical inactivity, poor diet, and alcohol abuse, this often results in unnecessary reasons for poor health and even more unnecessary reasons for chronic disease (Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 2014). Businesses are interested in health prevention because of the indirect costs businesses incur for poor health in the work place such as absenteeism, physical disability, and reduced employee work output. These cause are further exacerbated by increased health insurance costs. These reductions in production due to preventable health issues have been known to cost employers in the United States as much as $1,685 per individual employee per year. Another ways to view it is that it costs employers $225.8 billion a year (Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 2014). This means there is a necessity to implement and then expand an evidence-based health prevention that will provide the opportunity to improve the health but also control health care spending in the United States. Health prevention programs have proven effective. Workplace health programs have influenced social norms; establish new health policies, promote healthy lifestyles, and generate health screenings like immunizations, and reduce on-the-job exposure to hazards that can cause injury and diseases. When evidence based health prevention programs are effectively executed, these programs can generate around a $3 profit for every dollar spent (Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 2014). Health prevention programs have also benefited programs that focus on aging. Measures taking by the Administration on Aging is has implemented programs that benefit older adults manage and improve their health. Older Americans often suffer on a daily basis with chronic diseases, illnesses and injuries such as heart disease, arthritis, and diabetes. Health prevention programs are key in teaching older adults healthy behaviors and lifestyles. One of the best ways health prevention programs benefit older adults is through the use of community based wellness programs. These health prevention programs have been proven track record of increasing self-sufficiency and independence among older adults while decreasing trips to health care providers so that older adults are able to care and manage their health on their own for longer periods of time (HHS Administration on Aging, 2014). As alluded to earlier, businesses have benefited and have a heightened role in generating health prevention programs. First of all, companies can create three to five health intervention programs that often involve a combination of new programs, policies, and even environmental programs that highlight and celebrate nutrition and physical activity, while discouraging alcohol abuse, drug use and tobacco use in the workplace. One example of these programs include creating an inner and outer workplace environment that is completely tobacco-free while also subsidizing counseling to quit smoking and excess drug and alcohol issues. Another programs brings a local farmer’s market into the workplace. The farmer’s market not only provides the produce but also offers nutritional education and counseling, menu creations based on healthy, whole foods, non-junk foods in the workplace cafeteria and vending machines, counseling for weight loss and weight maintenance; and physical activ ity /lifestyle counseling, such as walking and running clubs. A successful workplace health prevention program will result in the full support and commitment of health prevention leadership and employees that are fully entrenched in all core health prevention programs that are created in a healthy lifestyle culture within the worksite (Health Promotion Programs, 2014). There are quite a few businesses that have excellent health prevention programs. First of all, SAS an international software company located in North Carolina, provides for its employees a wellness program that is built around its recreation and fitness center. This recreation and fitness center is open not only to SAS employees but also the employee family members and those who retire from SAS. Furthermore, SAS provides health checks, smoking cessation programs and incentives for accomplishing fitness goals. Finally though not exhaustively, the recreations and fitness center also provides preventative services as well as primary health care services to the SAS employees and their dependents (EHS Today, 2014). Another company that excels in generating health prevention programs is actually a university. The University of Alaska provides their employees an opportunity to complete a wellness profile so that they can uncover any hidden health concerns and then direct the employee to the right department in the university’s on-site health and wellness services. The university’s employees can then take part in applicable health screenings, health and fitness events, health and wellness coaching, and online health tracking. Employees who take part in the university’s health prevention programs are often reward for participating in the program (EHS Today, 2014). A third company that excels in providing a health prevention program is the Hamilton Utilities Corporation. This company health prevention program has the goal of providing a healthy workplace for all of their employees. The health prevention program encourages their employees to go beyond popping pills and submitting to surgeries for health maintenance but to look to maintain health from a holistic point of view. This involves measures such as a supportive work environment, workers safety, and employee empowerment programs. The company’s wellness team then evaluates and implements their wellness programs. Then the company’s management team provides support for the company’s wellness efforts through employee training, employee participation incentives, and implementing vending machines that provide healthy food choices in the workplace (EHS Today, 2014). Of all the programs, I am most impressed with the health prevention program that is found at SAS. Frist of all, I like how they provide a smoke free environment outside as well as inside. I remember one company I worked at where I needed to drop off an overnight package in a FedEx drop box that was right next to a prime smokers spot. I always had to hold my breath at that spot because that second-hand cigarette smoke was indeed quite intense. Furthermore, I really appreciate the thoughtfulness of SAS to provide a fitness center that is accessible not only to the employees but also to the employees family and it’s available to the employees long after they retire. Finally, though certainly not exhaustively, I appreciate how SAS rewards employees for accomplishing fitness goals really touches my heart. I would love to work at a company that rewards a person for reaching his or her goal weight, completing a 10K and even anniversaries for each year an employee’s goal weight is maintained. I would be honored to work at such a company. Conclusion After completing this assignment, I’m even more encouraged to lose the thirty pounds I’ve regained. I want to live a long and healthy life and I can’t do that with a thirty pound excess weighing down my heart and challenging my breathing and joints. Furthermore, even with health insurance, managing the hazards of excess weight is expensive. I would rather spend money on tap dance classes and running 10Ks than on prescriptions for managing high blood pressure. Finally, though certainly not exhaustively, I have a six-year-old nephew that I want to watch grow up, graduate from college and get married. I’ve always said I want to dance at his wedding; and I can’t do that as well if dancing will cause breathing problems due to excess weight. I’m so thankful for companies that provide health prevention programs because they encourage me to maintain my own healthy lifestyle. References Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Direct & Indirect Leadership

Direct vs. Indirect Leadership The term leadership is a word taken from the common vocabulary and incorporated into the technical vocabulary, of a scientific discipline without being precisely redefined. As a consequence, it carries extraneous connotations that create ambiguity of meaning (Janda, 1960). Leadership has been described as the â€Å"process of social influence, in which one person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task†. Social influence occurs when an individual's thoughts, feelings or actions are affected by other people, i. e†¦ onformity, peer pressure and socialization. (Wikipedia). The military definition of Leadership is influencing people—by providing purpose, direction, and motivation—while operating to accomplish the mission and improving the organization. Getting people to do what you want them to do. It is the means or method to achieve two ends: operating and improving. But there’s more to influencing than simply passing along orders. The example you set is just as important as the words you speak. And you set an example—good or bad—with every action you take and word you utter, on or off duty. Through your words and example, you must communicate purpose, direction, and motivation (FM 22-100 Chapter 1The Leadership Framework). Military leadership could be different from the rest of the world. Most corporations, companies and jobs are not bound by and oath, some may be. But what they do have in common, you don’t get to pick your leadership style. In the army you were sworn by an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States, against all enemies foreign and domestic so help you God and obey the orders of those appointed over you. In others words you didn’t have a choice, to pick what style of leadership you wanted. Most military leadership is a form of direct leadership. Generals communicate with field Commanders through teleconference, e-mails and speeches updating and talk about rules and regulation that effect their immediate command. Reinforcing, the army mission, its values and goals. Commanders are different they provide direct and indirect leadership, they are the one’s closet to the ground solider. Examples of direct leadership include formations, inspections and motor pool visits. They meet with their chain of command on a daily basis, to discuss and update them on changes to policies and regulation. Ensuring that all rules and regulation are being followed according to Department of Defense (DOD) and Uniform Code of Military Justice addressing all concerns and issues under their Chain of Command. Examples of more direct leadership include memos too change to policy, speaking at New Solider Orientation and before field training exercise. A form of indirect leadership by a CEO is called â€Å"cascading† (Bass, Waldman, Avolio, & Bebb, 1987; Waldman & Yammarino, 1999; Yammarino, 1994), occurs when the direct influence of the CEO on immediate subordinates is transmitted down the authority hierarchy of an organization (e. g. , from the CEO to middle managers, to lower-level managers, to regular employees. In this case the United States Army, through their promotion system. The Army is looking to retain, recruit and promote soldiers’ whose attitude, values (you’re vs. Army), military knowledge and appearance stack up against theirs through the promotion systems. Military Leadership Development Courses schooling design educate, reinforce the leader to achieve excellence. The Leader of Character and Competence Acts: Valves, Be, Know and Do. Values are Loyalty, Selfless Service and Integrity. Be: loyal, mental, physical and emotional strong. Know: Interpersonal, Technical and Tactical skills. Do: Influencing, through communicating and decision making. Operating, executing and assessing missions/training. Improving, through team building, developing and learning (FM 22-100 Chapter 1 The leadership Framework Fig 1-1). The type of leadership depends on the type of organizations that you are in or working for. One leadership style do not fit every situation. Strengths and Weaknesses Direct: Strengths: Everyone knows who’s in charge. Leaders or Managers has all the power, employees has very little input. Weakness: employees have no input, everything is enforce from the top down Employees may not take any initiative Indirect: Strengths: Employees can brainstorm come up with different ideas on how to accomplish the task/mission. Weakness: Could be time consuming, no one can agree on how to accomplish the task No one wants to accept responsibility

Essay on Stress Causes And Effects - 797 Words

Stress: Causes and Effects Stress is an ongoing dilemma that occurs in each and everyone’s life. It is a factor that is undoubtedly a part of daily living. Due to the trivial problems that occur in people’s daily lives massive amounts of stress can arise. People perceive and manage stress in many different ways. The causes and effects of stress are numerous and one’s ability to manage stress is vital in maintaining healthy living. First, stress is defined as an unpleasant state of emotional and physiological arousal that people experience in situations that they perceive as dangerous or threatening to their well being (Patel, 14). Many doctors estimate that stress is involved in more than half of all illnesses (Sapolsky, 21). Stress may cause or prolong an illness or increase its severity. Epinephrine and norepinephrine are hormones that are released during a stress reaction that affect organs throughout the body. As a result from the hormones being secreted, the heart begins to beat more rapidly, muscle tension increases, blood pressure raises, and heavy breathing may occur. This reaction is known as the fight-or-flight response. The fight-or-flight response energizes the body to either confront or flee from a threat. Heredity, learning, and injuries all play a role in determining where or when a stress related illness may occur in a particular individual (Sapolsky, 22). Stress has been linked to many diseases or malady conditions. Stress hormones that act on the heart, blood vessels, and lungs may contribute to heart disease, high blood pressure, and asthma (Feldman, 17). Diseases of the stomach and intestines are often associated to stress because blood leaves these organs and moves to muscles used in running and fighting. Another difficulty is the prolonging increase of blood sugar can influence the development of diabetes. Stress also appears to influence the development of cancer. Consequences And Development Of The DNA And The Polymerase...

We start with a piece of DNA to the direction of 3’ to 5’ strand of DNA is called the template strand. Initiation begins at the promoter region or the consensus sequences. The promoter region of the DNA is at the beginning of the gene. Two important finding regions occur at 10 base pairs and 35 base pairs upstream of transcription. Both sequences are important as mutations can prevent initiation. Common in Bacteria is the -10 region also known as the pribnow box. It is a series of thymine and adenine residues. The pribnow box is important for the recognition of the promoter region, other -10 and -35 consensus sequences exist but are recognized in a different manner. Another important locator on the DNA strand is the initiation site or†¦show more content†¦In a given cell order there are numerous types of sigma factors. Under normal condition or under stress different sigma factors recognize different promoter regions. Now that the holoenzyme is complete, the fo rmation of the transcription bubble can take place. The RNA polymerase unwinds the DNA by itself. In order to start transcription energy from a ATP or GTP is required, where the ribose from the triphosphate provides a 3’ hydroxyl to attack the first phosphate in the first nucleotide, this displaces the pyrophosphate. The new RNA therefore has a triphosphate at its 5’ end. Once transcription has started the sigma factor falls off. The next stage is elongation. Elongation occurs when approximately 12 nucleotides have been added to the RNA strand and the sigma subunit is dissociated and the polymerase has started to move from the promoter region. When the RNA is synthesized it is made in opposite polarity to the template DNA strand, meaning the 3’ end of the RNA faces the same direction at the 5’ end of the DNA. Inside the transcription bubble nucleotides come inside the RNA polymerase to make a complementary strand to the template strand of DNA. Here all base pairs match up like in DNA synthesis only instead of thymine uracil is paired with Adenine for RNA synthesis. Constant unwinding can lead to supercoiling of the DNA, which is like a telephone cord that is twisted at one end.
